Patterdale Circuit. 2 days. 6 Wainwrights.

An overnight bus from London meant an early start on this two day hike, which included a rather chilly wild camp near Pooley Bridge. Low level fog and snow capped peaks gave us beautiful views on Sunday morning!

Skiddaw Hause. 2 days, 9 Wainwrights

One night at Skiddaw Hause (best YHA I've ever had the pleasure to stay in) provided me with the perfect location to tackle Skiddaw and a few other fells along the way.

Windermere to Patterdale to Ambleside. 2 days, 11 Wainwrights

For this trip I took the train to Winderemere, and walked for 8 hours to Patterdale over 7 Wainwrights with stunning views and fantastic conditions. I spent the night at Patterdale YHA, enjoying the evening sun and local Ale.

The way back on Sunday took me 6 hours from Patterdale to Ambleside, but weather conditions were terrible (high winds and rain all day), so Sunday photos just show summit cairns!

Highlight of the weekend was Angletarn Pikes... it was my final summit of the day on Saturday, and I arrived at the same time as the best sunshine of the day!

The Story So Far...

There are 214 mountains, hill and fells in the Lake District National Park which are described in A. Wainwright's series of Pictorial Guides to the Lakes. I plan to reach the summit of all 214!

I have been climbing mountains for a number of years now, and as such have spent many weekends in Snowdonia, the Peak District, the Brecon Beacons and Scotland, but relatively little time in the Lake District. Earlier this year I challenged myself to summit at least one mountain a month, which you can find out all about here;

During this process I started to 'bag' a number of Wainwrights (adding to the few I had already done). In doing so, I discovered a real love for this part of the country, and started to think about becoming a Wainwright 'collector'. When I received the entire set of Pictorial Guides as a leaving present from my old job, the deal was done, and the challenge was set. I have created this blog to log my journey over, hopefully, all 214 summits! I have given myself no time limit, so I may complete this by the time I'm 29 or 109, time will tell!

As mentioned, I had already completed a number of Wainwrights before starting this blog.. so here is the story so far;
